Tears of Our Mothers Lie in the Seven Seas
2023 · Photography
This series traces a spiritual return to water as a site of rupture and rebirth within the African diaspora. Each image positions the body in relation to the ocean as both ancestor and witness. Through the figure of Yemoja, the Mother of Waters in Yoruba cosmology, the body becomes vessel, shoreline, and spirit. The portraits evoke collective memory, holding grief, cleansing, and renewal in a quiet act of ritual communion.
