On Woman Hating

September 10 – December 15, 2024

Curated by the inaugural Feminist FUTURES Fellow Alyssa Alexander, On Woman Hating is a multimedia exhibition that investigates the intersections of race, gender, climate change, and reproductive rights. Taking inspiration from Andrea Dworkin’s 1974 text, the exhibition negotiates a path toward centering the divine feminine within collective activism.

In this exhibition, Suzan Adélakun presents works from her series Daughters of the Diaspora, exploring pre-colonial mythologies and matriarchal systems. Her work, such as Masquerading beneath the truth's veil, celebrates the women of the diaspora as divine figures of power and transformation, reclaiming African and South Asian cosmologies from Eurocentric erasure. Through a lens of adornment and reverence, Adélakun’s contributions highlight the inextricable link between femininity and the natural world, serving as a tool for cultural revival and healing.
